EXCLUSIVE: David Tangipa says 'we need a NEW game plan for California'
Inspiring young Republican California State Assembly candidate brings fresh ideas to the Golden State
California has it all: a huge economy, fertile farmland, a Mediterranean climate, and enviable biodiversity that draws tourists from around the world. Unfortunately, California’s beauty and power have been invariably pockmarked by extreme leftist ideology and destructive environmentally-fueled legislation that has driven prices higher and contributed to the “California Exodus,” whereby nearly one million people have fled the state.
When it comes to California politics, the landscape is even more depressing. Democrats hold a supermajority in the state legislature, which has dampened the spirits of well-meaning Republicans and common-sense conservatives who dream of a better and brighter tomorrow for Golden State residents.
However bleak the picture may seem, that dream is not lost yet for one bright, enterprising young mind in California. Meet David Tangipa, a 28-year-old Republican state assembly candidate (District 8) offering a breath of fresh air to the stale climate of politics in the Central Valley.
Hailing from the North Highlands, David is the son of an immigrant and a Navy veteran. He played football at Fresno State University and now has a successful real estate career. He focused on education while at Fresno State, because, as he explained it, “I saw that as the great equalizer to pull my family out of generational poverty.”
His interest in politics was born when he started working for Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig, which threw him into the thick of things during the 2020 Covid pandemic. He also assisted California residents in the wake of the devastating Creek Fire that same year, which burned more than 380,000 acres. “We helped evacuate over 36,000 people on Labor Day Weekend,” David said.
His experiences with developing community Covid responses as well as the Creek Fire response equipped him to represent the needs of California residents in a uniquely organic way. “I have the experience of just being someone who’s community involved,” he shared.
He also worked with California Sen. Shannon Grove (R), helping her author SB 14, a bill that proposed making sex trafficking of a minor a “serious felony,” aiming at implementing harsher penalties against convicted human traffickers.
David further chaired the Valley Young Republicans and was the vice chair for the California Young Republicans Federation. He even worked on candidate recruitment, training, and messaging.
Because of the Democrat supermajority in the state, he pointed out, “Now we can tell people, it is not our fault at all, and we want to try something different [policy-wise].”
He continued, “We’re the FIFTH largest economy in the world – and we have rolling blackouts!”
California’s problems have a lot to do with Republicans’ style of business, David told me. “California Republicans have always been on the defense…I only know offense,” he said.
He described California as the “front lines of combating crazy” and urged native Californians to stay put and duke it out in the Golden State rather than abandon it. “We don’t need any more California refugees, we need some California rebels,” he observed. “…California’s not a disease – the leadership in place is.”
As a prospective state assemblyman, David is heavily focused on moving California away from what he called “policies of scarcity” that have resulted in environmentally-fueled legislation that has hurt local farmers, driven up energy prices, and failed to store precious water.
And, if David is elected this year, he will be the youngest assemblyman to serve in California, proving that not only can young conservatives get involved in the civic process, but they can make a big difference.
When it comes to engaging the California youth, David says, “I tell them they should get involved because it’s OUR future.” He pointed to rising housing prices and mortgages, looking ahead to the future of the next generation’s children and grandchildren.
He scorched California politicians’ habit of weaponizing the system “under the guise of compassion” while simultaneously forcing state citizens to deal with the negative consequences in their day-to-day lives.
David has been enthusiastically endorsed in his state assembly bid by major players like Ric Grenell, the former acting director of national intelligence under the Trump administration. He’s also been endorsed by Ret. Sheriff Margaret Mims, Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni, and Assemblyman Jim Patterson, R-Calif. He has even received the backing of groups like the California Correctional Peace Officers Association, the California Rifle and Pistol Association, the California Association of Highway Patrolmen, Moms for America Action, and California Professional Firefighters.
There is no doubt that David Tangipa brings something new and refreshing to the table in California. In a chaotic political landscape, he represents the energetic dreams of an upcoming generation that is ready to break free of failed leadership and embrace a California that could return to common sense policies and attainable prosperity.
