You can also expect a new book from me this year (finally!). I’ve been working on it for years, as many of you know, and put it aside while I was covering President Donald Trump’s political campaign for the past several years.
Let’s DREAM again: Trump’s second term stands to reignite the indomitable American frontier spirit
Editorial by Summer Lane |
In the modern age, it's hard to imagine what it must have been like to feel the fiery inspiration of the American frontier - vast virgin vistas and skyscraping mountain peaks, untapped natural resources and open, unsettled landscapes.
Americans pushing west during those early days were offered freedom and opportunity like never before when they staked claims in the rolling plains of Oklahoma or mined for gold in California.
It was the alluring promise of private land ownership that ultimately drove the westward expansion and prompted Americans to pack covered wagons and strike out to jagged, unknown wildernesses.
For the modern American man and woman, such a feeling seems almost mythical. How could we ever recreate such a thing? Here, in our crowded cities and overtaxed counties, we have lost our ability to dream about freedom in the sense that our forefathers did.
But perhaps it's not as far out of our reach as we think.
The incoming Trump administration could change everything. While President Trump has broadly vowed to "make America GREAT again," reclaiming that greatness is multifaceted.
Our country has been hurting for a long time. We need a stronger economy, energy independence, a stronger military, and a safe and secure border. We need law and order. We need less government regulation and less dependence on foreign countries for manufacturing.
But we also need to dream again. A country that dreams is a country that cannot help but grow, because in dreams, there is hope and creativity.
President Trump has, in recent weeks, dropped comments about eyeing Greenland and even Canada as potential new U.S. territories, which has set the world atwitter with debate and stirred much discussion.
But imagine the potential. Greenland is a vast and beautiful continent with a vast wealth of natural resources, like coal, gold, copper, and rare-earth elements. There is also plenty of gas and oil deposits there, which begs the question: why shouldn't the United States think about acquiring Greenland and establishing a military presence there?
Greenland is also nearly double the size of Alaska, and would allow the United States to have access to new shipping lanes and trade opportunities.
Trump said this week that Greenland needs to be utilized by the United States for "National Security" purposes, and pointed out that the people there would not oppose an American presence.
And Canada is just a no-brainer. They're close to the United States, and their people have been crushed under the weight of Trudeau and stifling socialism for far too long.
To be truly great, America must continue to look ahead and envision the future, and who better to lead the way on that front than the world's greatest dealmaker?
"If Canada was to become our 51st state, their taxes would be cut by more than 60%, their businesses would immediately double in size, and they would be militarily protected like no other country anywhere in the world," President Trump wrote on Truth Social this week.
While annexing Canada may be mostly humorous banter from Trump, the idea poses an excellent question: would Canadians be happier if they were integrated into the United States?
It's very likely. Not to mention Canada produces a hefty amount of energy (natural oil and gas), and the United States its one of the main destinations for its exports.
Imagine how much money Americans could save if we brought the resources of Canada and Greeland into the fold domestically! After all, energy independence and production are the keys to power in our modern world.
Acquiring both Canada and Greenland would secure our energy dominance for centuries, and it would ultimately negate China's power over us - something that is sorely needed, particularly as the Communist regime continues to expand its nuclear arsenal.
Lastly, Trump has pointedly stated that China has illegally grown their influence over the Panama Canal, and it seems as if the U.S. could easily reclaim its control of the critical trade route.
"Merry Christmas to all, including to the wonderful soldiers of China, who are lovingly, but illegally, operating the Panama Canal (where we lost 38,000 people in its building 110 years ago), always making certain that the United States puts in Billions of Dollars in 'repair' money, but will have absolutely nothing to say about 'anything,'" the president wrote this week on Truth Social.
As always, Trump blends a stroke of facetiousness with the cold, hard truth, and he makes a great point. Why should we waste our money on the Panama Canal and have no representation on what goes on there? He's right, as usual.
With Trump at the helm on January 20, 2025, the United States will unabashedly use its power to chart a new, upward course that will inspire and reignite the frontier spirit of yesteryear.
"We had the Greatest Election in the History of our Country, a bright light is now shining over the U.S.A. and, in 26 days, we will, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. MERRY CHRISTMAS!" Trump wrote on Wednesday.
This year, the best Christmas gift America could possibly receive has been given: the ability to dream again.
Thank you, President Trump. America is ready.
