News summary for the nation:
The dominating news for the nation on Monday morning was President Donald Trump’s resounding victory in the U.S. Supreme Court’s 9-0 ruling that reversed the Colorado State Supreme Court’s decision to strip Trump from their 2024 ballot.
Their unanimous opinion found that states do not have the right to enforce Section 3 of the 14th Amendment for a federal officer - they found that only Congress did.
This ruling essentially ensures that President Trump will remain on the ballot in 2024 in all 50 states.
From the SCOTUS ruling:
These are not the only reasons the States lack power to enforce this particular constitutional provision with respect to federal offices. But they are important ones, and it is the combination of all the reasons set forth in this opinion—not, as some of our colleagues would have it, just one particular rationale—that resolves this case. In our view, each of these reasons is necessary to provide a complete explanation for the judgment the Court unanimously reaches. The judgment of the Colorado Supreme Court is reversed. The mandate shall issue forthwith.

Trump argues for presidential immunity amid 14th Amendment SCOTUS victory. He explained, “Without Presidential Immunity, a President will not be able to properly function, or make decisions, in the best interest of the United States of America. Presidents will always be concerned, and even paralyzed, by the prospect of wrongful prosecution and retaliation, after they leave office. This could actually lead to extortion and blackmail of a President.”
Trump praises Supreme Court justices for 14th Amendment ruling. He told reporters on Monday during a press conference, “I have great respect for the Supreme Court and I just want to thank them for working so quickly and so diligently and so brilliantly, and again, this is a unifying factor.”
